The Client

Boldyn Networks is one of the world’s largest and most established neutral host providers, delivering critical communications infrastructure across transport, venues, cities and campuses. Formerly known as BAI Communications, the organisation has grown significantly through mergers and acquisitions, including the acquisition of Vilicom in 2021, before rebranding as Boldyn Networks in 2023.

Project delivery is central to Boldyn’s success, with teams managing complex, multi-stakeholder programmes that demand strong governance, accurate financial control and clear executive visibility.

The Challenge

As Boldyn grew in scale and complexity, informal, experience-led project delivery approaches became increasingly unsustainable. Project and financial data was dispersed across spreadsheets and disconnected systems, limiting visibility into cost performance, resource utilisation and forecast accuracy.

This lack of a single, reliable view made it difficult to manage margins proactively, assess delivery risks early and support leadership decision-making across a growing portfolio of programmes.

As projects became more complex, it was clear we needed a structured, reliable way to manage delivery and financial performance across the business.” Conor O’Callaghan, Country Manager: Ireland and Head of Service Delivery

The Solution

Boldyn selected PPO (Project Portfolio Office) for its adaptability, scalability and integration capabilities, allowing the business to introduce structure without sacrificing flexibility.

PPO was configured to align with Boldyn’s delivery model, enabling standardised project governance while supporting different customers, regions and programme types. Equally critical was PPO’s ability to integrate into Boldyn’s wider technology ecosystem. Automated integration with Salesforce streamlined the transition from sales to delivery, while financial integration provided real-time visibility of budgets, committed costs and forecasts within a single platform.

The implementation was delivered collaboratively, focusing on establishing strong data foundations, clear governance and high user adoption, while allowing the organisation to evolve and extend capability over time.

“PPO gave us the flexibility to shape the system around how we deliver projects, while its integrations allowed us to bring delivery and financial data together into one coherent view.” Conor O’Callaghan, Country Manager: Ireland and Head of Service Delivery

The Results

PPO has delivered measurable business value for Boldyn by transforming how projects and financial performance are managed. Project managers now have real-time insight into cost, labour and forecast variance, enabling earlier intervention and better commercial decision-making. Leadership benefits from consistent portfolio-level visibility, while finance processes have been simplified through automated reporting and milestone-driven workflows.

Crucially, the improved visibility and control have translated into tangible financial outcomes, including sustained improvements in gross profit margin and stronger forecasting accuracy across programmes.

“By having live visibility of cost, labour and forecast in PPO, we’re making better decisions earlier – and that has delivered a clear improvement in our gross profit margin. The uplift has been significant and proves that the structure works.” Conor O’Callaghan, Country Manager: Ireland and Head of Service Delivery
